Our School

Welcome to Gary Lighthouse Charter School! GLCS is a tuition-free public charter school serving K–12 scholars in Gary, Hammond, and East Chicago, Indiana. We are proud to provide opportunities and experiences to scholars that support their academic, social, and emotional development.

Funding and Charter

Gary Lighthouse Charter School receives public funding from federal and state resources. Managed by Lighthouse Academies, we operate under our charter as authorized by the Indiana Charter School Board.

Our History

Gary Lighthouse Charter School began in 2005 as a K–5 campus. In 2013, we restructured and combined three K–12 campuses (West Gary Lighthouse, Gary Lighthouse, and East Chicago Lighthouse). Later that school year, we congratulated our first graduating class in June of 2014! We currently serve over 1,300 scholars attending the three following campuses:

  • Primary Academy (K–3)
  • Upper Academy (4–8)
  • College Preparatory Academy (9–12)

Our Culture

We pride ourselves on building healthy, strong relationships with each scholar as well as collaborating with families and community organizations to establish positive and productive partnerships through which our scholars reap benefits well beyond high school.

Our Mission

All Lighthouse scholars are provided a rigorous learning environment that promotes engagement, creativity, and critical thinking. We challenge our students bell-to-bell to give 100% participation and effort to ensure they will achieve their maximum potential.
